Local journalism matters.

In many communities across the Gulf Coast, important stories often move fast and disappear even faster. Storm updates, road closures, public safety alerts, community events, local government decisions, and neighborhood concerns can sometimes get buried beneath national headlines, political outrage, and nonstop click-driven content.

Gulf Coast Times was created to focus on something simpler: local communities, reliable information, and practical reporting that people can actually use.

We are an independent, community-focused newsroom covering local breaking news, weather, emergency updates, public safety, community events, preparedness information, local government, investigations, and the stories that matter most to Gulf Coast residents.

Our goal is not to flood readers with sensational headlines or nonstop political noise. Our goal is to keep communities informed, connected, and prepared.

Community-First Reporting

Gulf Coast Times is built around the idea that local communities deserve coverage that feels local, human, and accessible.

While national stories may occasionally be covered when they significantly impact Gulf Coast communities, our primary focus remains on local impact rather than political sides or national outrage cycles.

We believe local journalism should help people:

  • stay informed during emergencies
  • understand what is happening in their communities
  • discover local events and stories
  • prepare for severe weather and disasters
  • feel more connected to the region they live in

We also believe communities themselves should play a role in local news.

Readers can submit news tips, photos, videos, weather reports, event information, and eyewitness submissions through:

When possible, contributors and photographers can receive credit for their submissions.

Supporting New Writers and Contributors

One of the goals behind Gulf Coast Times is to create opportunities for aspiring writers, students, photographers, and community contributors to gain real published experience.

Local journalism has changed dramatically over the years, and many writers struggle to find opportunities to build a portfolio or have their work officially published. Gulf Coast Times aims to help provide that opportunity while encouraging more local storytelling and community involvement.

We believe local voices matter.

How We Verify Information

Accuracy matters.

During breaking news and emergency situations, information online can spread quickly—and not all of it is correct. Gulf Coast Times aims to report quickly, but accuracy comes first.

Information may be gathered and verified using:

  • official statements and public agencies
  • emergency management sources
  • weather and National Weather Service updates
  • scanner and radio monitoring
  • eyewitness reports and submissions
  • cross-checking multiple available sources

When information is still developing, we aim to clearly communicate what is confirmed, what is unconfirmed, and when updates are expected.

Our Approach to AI and Technology

Like many modern digital newsrooms, Gulf Coast Times may use AI-assisted tools to help organize information, improve formatting, summarize official reports more efficiently, or assist with workflow during fast-moving situations.

However, AI does not replace reporting, verification, or editorial review.

Content is reviewed by manually before publication, and official information is still verified through trusted sources whenever possible.

Technology should support journalism—not replace it.

Advertising, Affiliate Links, and Funding

Gulf Coast Times is supported through advertising, sponsorships, donations, affiliate links, and potentially future subscription-based features.

Some articles or preparedness guides may include affiliate links to products or services that are relevant to the topic being discussed. If readers make purchases through those links, Gulf Coast Times may earn a commission at no additional cost to the reader.

We believe transparency matters, and sponsored or affiliate-related content should be clearly identified whenever applicable.

Our goal is to help support independent local journalism while keeping the majority of content accessible to the community.

What Gulf Coast Times Will Not Become

Modern media often rewards outrage, fear, speed, and sensationalism.

Gulf Coast Times does not aim to become:

  • clickbait-driven
  • politically extreme
  • fear-based
  • misleading
  • corporate-controlled
  • focused on national culture war content over local reporting

We do not believe every story needs fake urgency or outrage to matter.

Communities deserve calm, accurate, and responsible reporting—especially during emergencies and severe weather events.

Looking Ahead

Gulf Coast Times is still growing, but the mission remains simple: build a trusted, community-first newsroom focused on the Gulf Coast and the people who live here.

We believe local journalism still matters. We believe communities deserve reliable coverage that puts people before algorithms. And we believe readers should feel like they are part of the newsroom—not just an auduence watching from the outside.
