BRAZORIA COUNTY, Texas — Gulf Coast Times is preparing to turn community support into Christmas gifts for local children as its first GCT Gives Back: Christmas Toy Drive prepares to begin collecting donations Nov. 2.
The community-led initiative will collect new toys, books, gift cards, baby items and other Christmas gifts for children from newborns through age 17. Donations will be distributed to selected families throughout Brazoria County who may need additional assistance during the holiday season.
The drive will run from Monday, Nov. 2, through Friday, Dec. 11, with Gulf Coast Times coordinating donations, volunteers and the distribution of gifts directly to participating families.
Two Freeport businesses, On The River and Mama C, have already agreed to serve as official toy collection locations. Additional businesses throughout Brazoria County are being invited to participate.
The inaugural drive has an initial goal of collecting at least 100 toys and gifts to assist approximately 40 to 50 children, although organizers hope community participation will allow the effort to reach even more families.
Local Businesses Invited to Help Collect Christmas Gifts
Beginning Nov. 2, residents will be able to drop off eligible donations at participating collection locations, including On The River and Mama C in Freeport.
Gulf Coast Times is seeking additional businesses willing to host donation boxes throughout the collection period. Participating businesses will help provide convenient locations for residents to contribute to the effort while supporting families in their own communities.
Donations may include new toys, children's books, gift cards, baby items and other age-appropriate Christmas gifts suitable for infants, young children and teenagers.
Residents wishing to contribute larger or higher-value gifts are encouraged to contact Gulf Coast Times directly to arrange a scheduled pickup, rather than leaving those items in a public collection box.
Monetary donations will also be accepted through Stripe, a payment processing platform. Contributions received through the online payment option will be used to purchase additional toys and gifts, particularly for age groups that may receive fewer physical donations.
Residents who would like to contribute financially can make a secure donation through Stripe. Contributions will be used to purchase additional Christmas gifts for children across Brazoria County.
Businesses interested in hosting a collection box or otherwise supporting the drive can contact Gulf Coast Times by emailing justin@gulfcoasttimes.com, calling or texting (979) 236-8308, or submitting a message through the contact form on the GCT website.
GCT to Distribute Gifts Directly to Families
Unlike donation campaigns that transfer collected items to outside organizations, Gulf Coast Times plans to organize the distribution process with assistance from its own team and community volunteers.
The effort is intended to provide Christmas gifts to local families who may be experiencing financial difficulties or other circumstances that make purchasing presents challenging.
Parents and legal guardians seeking assistance will be able to submit an application through an online Google Form. Applications will be reviewed, and the number of families selected will depend on available donations and resources.

After the collection period closes Dec. 11, Gulf Coast Times plans to retrieve remaining donations, sort toys and prepare gifts between Dec. 12 and Dec. 17.
A public gift distribution event is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 19, when selected families will be able to pick up their Christmas gifts at no cost.
The event's location, hours and additional details will be announced as arrangements are finalized. Gift distribution will be reserved for selected families who have completed the application process and received confirmation.
More Than Just Local News
The Christmas toy drive marks the beginning of GCT Gives Back, a community-focused initiative intended to expand Gulf Coast Times' involvement beyond reporting local news and events.
Gulf Coast Times hopes the project will bring residents, businesses and volunteers together to help neighbors during a time of year when even a small contribution can make a meaningful difference.
While the initial target is 100 toys and approximately 40 to 50 children, organizers say the number of families assisted could increase if donations exceed expectations.
Residents are encouraged to follow Gulf Coast Times on Facebook for announcements regarding additional collection locations, family applications, volunteer opportunities and updates throughout the campaign.
GCT Gives Back: Christmas Toy Drive will begin accepting donations Nov. 2, with the final collection day scheduled for Dec. 11.

A Note From the Publisher
I started Gulf Coast Times to keep people informed about what's happening in our communities, but I also want to be involved in helping out where we can. Christmas can be tough for some families, especially with how expensive everything has gotten. We've already got a couple of local businesses willing to help, and I'm hoping more people will get involved. If we can help 40 or 50 kids this year, that's a good start. Hopefully, we can do even more than that.
