ANGLETON, Texas — A peaceful march for John Gabriel Mendoza Jr. is planned for Saturday, June 14, as community members prepare to gather in Angleton in support of his family.
The march is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. at Angleton City Hall. From there, participants are expected to march peacefully to the courthouse.
Organizers say the event is meant to bring the community together, show support for Mendoza’s family and call for justice while keeping the focus on peace and unity.
“First and foremost this is a peaceful protest,” the organizer told Gulf Coast Times. “This is not a finger pointing type of situation.”
The march comes as public concern continues following the officer-involved shooting death of Mendoza, whose case has drawn attention across Brazoria County.
The organizer said the goal is to stand with the family while avoiding additional conflict.
“We’re coming together for the family as a community to show the family that we are behind them and we are going to demand justice,” she said. “But we are going to do so by ensuring that we don’t cause additional strife. We don’t add to the issue at hand and we use our voice instead of our fist.”
The organizer said the march was planned for a Sunday in hopes of allowing more people to attend.
She said a separate protest held earlier was more organized around the father’s side of the family and happened during the middle of the day. Organizers chose the June 14 march date and time to give the community a better opportunity to show up.
“That’s why we put it for a Sunday so that way we can hopefully have the biggest turnout possible,” she said.
According to the organizer, several speakers are expected to take part in the march.
She said local politicians running for office have pledged to attend, along with family members and friends of family members who plan to share stories and personal experiences.
“We have at least three or four people that are scheduled to speak,” the organizer said.
Organizers have also partnered with Emvizion Designs for shirts, buttons and signs connected to the march.
The organizer said those items are available through Emvizion Designs’ “Justice for John Mendoza Jr. Memorial” collection.
According to information previously provided to Gulf Coast Times by the organizer, a portion of proceeds from merchandise sales is expected to go directly to the family.
The march is scheduled for Saturday, June 14, at 9 a.m. Attendees are asked to meet at Angleton City Hall before marching to the courthouse.
Organizers are asking attendees to keep the event peaceful and focused on support, unity and the family.
The organizer said the message is not about creating more tension, but about giving the community a way to gather, speak and be heard.
The march is expected to draw residents who have been following the case, people who knew Mendoza, family supporters and community members calling for answers.
Mendoza’s death has led to continued questions and concern from residents across Brazoria County.
Officials have said the case remains under investigation, and many details have not yet been publicly released.
As the investigation continues, the planned march gives supporters a public way to stand with the family while calling attention to the case.
Gulf Coast Times plans to follow the event and will continue updating the community as more verified information becomes available.
